Breaking: Felony sexual offense scandal rocks the Oilers organization.
Oilers organization terminates employee
It seems like there has been a rash of sexual assault scandals in the sport of hockey over the last several months, and unfortunately it sounds like we have something similar to report involving a member of the Edmonton Oilers organization at large.
According to an announcement from the Bakersfield Condors, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Oilers, the team has fired head athletic trainer Chad Drown after Drown was charged with "very serious felony offences related to contacting a minor to commit a sexual offence in the state of California." This is obviously an extremely serious situation and one that goes far beyond the sport of hockey, and I can only hope that the authorities will conduct a full investigation and that Drown will face the full force of the law if he is indeed guilty of these crimes.
Following the announcement from the Condors, the Oilers have issued a statement of their own. The team has announced that they intend to work closely with the Condors on this matter which makes perfect sense given their shared ownership group. The Oilers also made it clear that they fully support the decision to remove Chad Drown from his duties effectively immediately, which is perhaps the least surprising statement of all time.
