Yes, we are talking about the team that made it all the way to the Stanley Cup final just this past July. The Montreal Canadiens have started their season without a point through five games. This is only the second in their history this happens…

The Habs will try to avoid their worst start to a season ever against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, and also try to avoid becoming the first Stanley Cup finalist to go 0-6 just months later.

But the Canadiens might already be in too much trouble, yes, this early on in the season.

According to Alexandre Gascon of Radio-Canada in Montreal, the Habs with their 0-5-0 record, must now, in order to reach the 95-point plateau by the end of the regular calendar in the hope of making the playoffs, maintain a cruising speed of .660 by the end of the season .

How heavy is this order?!

The last time the Canadiens maintained such a pace dates back to the 1989-90 season, more than 20 years ago! The tweet is in French, but it's all there:

The order is huge, especially since the Canadiens have only managed to record four goals since the season opener, and are struggling immensely both on the power-play and the penalty kill.

There are a lot of things that need to be improved for the Canadiens to be able to maintain a .660 pace to remain a contender this spring.

Not sure this is going down the right path…
