Canes turn to non-English speaking rookie goalie after bloody Raanta leaves Game 2
This is his NHL playoff debut!
The Carolina Hurricanes were hoping to pick up where they left of on Monday after a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins to take the lead in the first round series.
However on Wednesday, the Bruins appear more fiery and their desperation caused some chaos in front of the Canes’ net in the first period, which resulted in goalie Antti Raanta getting injured.
Star forward David Pastrnak rushed towards the net, but could not avoid Raanta, running into him and causing him to bleed from the mouth, probably losing a tooth.
The netminder was pulled from the game, probably to undergo concussion protocols. He will not return to the game.
In the meantime, the Hurricanes are forced to turn to Pyotr Kochetkov, who does not speak a single word of English, according to the Carolina broadcast.
Pyotr Kochetkov has only played three NHL contests in the past, all for the Hurricanes within the last ten days of the regular season. He is just 22 years old and officially got his visa a few months ago to play in Carolina.
This is his NHL playoff debut! And good thing for him, the Hurricanes have taken a 2-0 lead in the first period over the Bruins.
