Chris Osgood invokes past NHL legends when describing Moritz Seider

The legendary Red Wings goalie knows what he's talking about!

Detroit Red Wings rookie defenseman Moritz Seider has burst onto the scene in his first NHL season, playing in all situations and earning the second most time on ice on the entire roster. Oh, and there's the fact that he's second only to fellow Red Wings rookie Lucas Raymond in NHL rookie scoring, and that he earned "Rookie of the Month" honors for October.

Needless to say, he's had a pretty good start to his career, and is making Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman look like a mad genius for having taken a gamble on him with the 6th overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.

The NHL world has taken notice, according to legendary former Red Wings goaltender and current TV analyst Chris Osgood. In fact, Osgood compared Seider to several Hall of Fame defenseman that he had the privilege of playing with during his playing days.

"I played with Al MacInnis, Chris Pronger, Nick Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski, Larry Murphy, a lot of great dmen," Osgood said during the broadcast of last night's game against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden. "He's right there. He's just that good. He's a beast, his intelligence is off the charts. He's put the league on notice 1 month into his career"

But don't expect the man himself to toot his own horn.

“I've played, I think, pretty OK,” was Seider’s self-assessment of his play prior to Thursday's game against the Boston Bruins.

“But it’s definitely not about me,” he added quickly. “I don’t want to put myself in front of the team or want to talk about myself. … All in all, I just want to win hockey games."
