Connor Hellebuyck trade talks have just gained massive traction!

According to reporter Marco D'Amico, trade discussions involving Hellebuyck have picked up real momentum in recent days. Florida is reportedly still exploring the possibility of acquiring the elite netminder, while Toronto and Buffalo have also made inquiries.

The Sabres, in particular, appeared to get close to a deal. However, according to D'Amico, Buffalo was ultimately told that Winnipeg's asking price was simply too steep.

That price tag became a bit clearer when NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Carolina Hurricanes submitted a notable trade package for Hellebuyck earlier this week. According to Seravalli, writing for Hockey 24/7, the offer was believed to include rookie defenseman Alexander Nikishin and a first-round pick.

Nikishin, 24, had an impressive debut season on Carolina's blue line, tallying 11 goals and earning a spot on the All-Rookie team alongside Matthew Schaefer. A first-round selection sweetens the pot further.

Still, it remains unclear whether that kind of package would be enough to pry Hellebuyck away from the Jets. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner is widely regarded as the best goaltender on the planet, and Winnipeg appears intent on extracting maximum value if they do decide to move him.

The sheer volume of teams reportedly involved underscores just how rare an opportunity this represents. Elite goaltending remains one of the hardest things to acquire in the NHL, and Hellebuyck sits in a class of his own at the position.

With the trade market heating up and multiple franchises jockeying for position, the Jets hold significant leverage. Whether they find a deal that meets their threshold or ultimately hold onto their franchise goaltender remains the biggest question of the offseason.
