The Edmonton Oilers have something incredibly special on their hands and, while that was readily apparent already, Oilers captain Connor McDavid sent everyone a reminder of that on Friday night.
The Oilers were down by a goal to the Rangers late in the third period, with the scoreboard reading 5 - 4 with just 3 minutes left on the game clock, and it was at that moment that McDavid decided to bring on the heroics. McDavid appeared to be looking for space and he began the sequence by skating the puck out of the offensive zone and into neutral ice. McDavid skated through the neutral zone as he waited for his teammates to get on side, and once they had all crossed the threshold of the Rangers blue line McDavid turned on the jets.
The superstar forward carried the puck back into the Rangers' zone and proceeded to burn all 4 of the Rangers that were standing in his way. McDavid wove his way through the 4 defenders before using a ridiculous dangle to break through the whole pack, creating a great scoring chance seemingly out of thin air. McDavid not only pulled off the draw dropping move to beat the 4 defenders however, he capped it all off by burying the puck in the back of the net for what will no doubt be one of the best goals of his National Hockey League career.
The goal would tie the game for the Oilers with only minutes left on the clock and that would prove to be enough of a boost to get the Oilers across the finish the line. The Oilers would eventually defeat the Rangers by a score of 6 - 5 and once again McDavid was a key factor in completing the comeback. After winning a puck battle in the corner during the overtime frame, McDavid would eventually get the puck to Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse, who in turn found Leon Draisaitl for the game winning goal.
It was a moment that you probably wouldn't even be able to pull off in a video game, but in spite of that the Oilers magician managed to make it a reality seemingly through sheer force of will.
