Conor Timmins publicly responds to the sexual assault allegations.

Timmins speaks out.

The scandal surrounding Hockey Canada and an incident that is alleged to have taken place in 2018 has stunned the hockey world, likely due in large part to the fact that there is a widely held belief that several current players in the National Hockey League may have been involved.

To make a long story short, a young woman has accused a large number of players, 8 to be exact, from the 2018 Canadian World Juniors Team of having sexually assaulted her after an event in London, Ontario. While these accusations have not yet been proven in court, the fact that Hockey Canada paid the alleged victim a settlement has led many, unfortunately, to presume that the players involved are in fact guilty.

The reality is that no one but the investigators, and the people involved, know the full details of this story but in spite of that we are now already seeing NHL players speak out in an attempt to clear their name. The latest example comes from Arizona Coyotes defenseman Conor Timmins, who on Monday morning released the following statement through the agency that represents him:

I am aware of the allegations made against some of
the members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior
Hockey team at the London, Ontario gala event in
June of 2018.
I was not involved in any way in the incident that gave
rise to the allegations that have been reported. No
one alleges that I was present or involved and I have
no personal knowledge of what occurred.
I cooperated fully with the initial Hockey Canada
investigation and will continue to cooperate in any
other investigations as required.
As investigations are ongoing, I will not be commenting
further on the matter.

Timmins likely won't be the last player to speak out on this matter as no innocent person wants their name associated with a sexual assault. That it turn means that the list of 8 names will continue to narrow considerably, and as a result it seems like only a matter of time before we get to the bottom of this. Hopefully when the investigations have wrapped up, we will have a clearer picture of what really happened and who was actually involved.
