Emergency surgery for Zach Hyman!
The latest details on Zach Hyman’s injury are worse than first anticipated. Get them all down below:
The worst has been confirmed for the Edmonton Oilers and their star forward Zach Hyman. After it was first reported by Jason Gregor that he would likely miss the remainder of the series against the Dallas Stars, head coach Kris Knoblauch now confirms that Hyman is undergoing upper-body surgery today and will be out for the rest of the postseason.
Knoblauch would not specify other than upper-body. They don’t expect to see him back for a while...
According to Rick Dhaliwal, the surgery will be on Hyman's wrist.
Hyman left Tuesday’s game and didn’t return after receiving a hit from Dallas Stars’ Mason Marchment midway through the first period. As soon as he got hit, Hyman dropped his stick and favored his right arm. He immediately left the ice and headed to the Oilers’ dressing room 9:17 into the game. After 3 minutes, 11 seconds, of action, Game 4 was over for him.
And now so is his season...
The Oilers went on to win the game, in most part for Hyman, and have taken a 3-1 series lead against the Stars. The Western Final could wrap up on Thursday in Dallas with a win from Edmonton.
Hyman leads the NHL with 111 hits in 15 games this postseason and ranks fifth in scoring on Edmonton with 11 points (five goals, six assists). He scored 54 goals last season and 16 during the Oilers’ run to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.
What a brutal loss for Edmonton...
