Last week, it was reported that forward Jake Virtanen was involved in an “altercation with a teammate on the bench near the end of a game”. This prompted EHC Visp to place Virtanen on the trade market, hoping to get rid of the forward as soon as possible.

No one expected to sign on the controversial forward, who keeps racking up the shocking incidents under his belt.

When Virtanen had joined EHC Visp, it was following the NHL pre-season in which he was dumped by the Edmonton Oilers, a few months after he had previously been with his hometown Vancouver Canucks before being bought out of his contract in 2021 amidst a sexual assault scandal.

All of this didn’t stop the Fischtown Pinguins in Germany in the DEL to offer him a contract.

“I’m more than happy that the Pinguins are offering me the chance to show here in the north that I’m a decent person and a good hockey player,” Virtanen states on the club’s website.

In 21 games, Virtanen recorded 14 goals 25 points with EHC Visp. While he could do just as well with the Pinguins, he certainly needs to do much better overall as a person.
