This would be a huge get for the Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have a completely new look between the pipes for the upcoming 2022-23 NHL season, and understandably, there's plenty of speculation as to just how this will work.

In a series of moves that have garnered plenty of reaction from both fans and pundits alike, Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas made the call to let popular goaltender Jack Campbell walk for greener pastures in the form of a five year contract with the Edmonton Oilers; he completely revamped the look of his team's goaltending by unloading Petr Mrazek's contract to the Chicago Blackhawks while also acquiring Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators and then inking Ilya Samsonov from the Washington Capitals.

It will certainly be a gamble for Dubas in the fact that he essentially unloaded one injury-prone and struggling goaltender in Mrazek for another in Murray. But if Murray ultimately falters with the Leafs, could they have a secret Plan B up their sleeve?

According to FanSided's Editor In Leaf, don't be surprised to see Dubas make a run at Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

"Hellebuyck, who has a Vezina, is 29 years-old, and has a contract of just over $6 million for each of the next two seasons, is a perfect candidate for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He is cheap, he is not signed long-term, and his current team is garbage and doesn’t look to be getting any better before he is an unrestricted free-agent asking for nine or ten million per season.

The Winnipeg Jets, like the Islanders, are in possession of a goalie who is going to price himself out of town before they can ice a contender around him.  The obvious move is to cash in, and, should Matt Murray not pan out, look for the Toronto Maple Leafs to try and make a move in this direction."

While it certainly would be a shock to even see them attempt this, is Toronto already planning for a contingency should Murray go the way that most fans and pundits are expecting? Time will tell.
