This just in: Team Czechia is forced to forfeit today’s game against Finland in the preliminary round of the World Juniors due to a mandated team quarantine.
According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, one player from Team Czechia tested positive overnight.
"Therefore, due to close contact/IIHF Covid protocols, entire CZE team goes into 24 hour quarantine/two-test phase. Therefore, CZE assessed 1-0 forfeit loss to FIN for today’s game."
Tuesday's contest between Team USA and Switzerland was cancelled after COVID-19 issues within Team USA. Switzerland won by a 1-0 forfeiture. This is therefore the second game affected by protocols in this tournament.
Czechia (0-0-1-2) is set to to play Austria next, on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET. McKenzie reports that does not give them enough time to get the required amount of two negative tests within 24 hours to exit hotel room quarantine, opening the possibility of a schedule change by the IIHF.
The schedule is likely to change in this tournament as well (sound familiar NHL fans?!)
