This just in, the New Jersey Devils have announced that forward Jack Hughes will be out of the lineup indefinitely while he recovers from a shoulder injury. The 20 year old Hughes suffered a shoulder separation in Tuesday's win over the Seattle Kraken.
Here's the hit in question:
Hughes left the game and did not return.
The Devils have now confirmed that while Hughes won't require surgery to repair his shoulder, he'll be out of the lineup for at least a week.
From the Devils' official press release:
On Tuesday night against Seattle, Jack Hughes suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder. A subsequent MRI revealed no further damage, and he does not require surgery at this time. He has begun physical therapy under the guidance of New Jersey's doctors and athlete care staff.
Jack will be re-evaluated next week in order to determine his further timeline.
He was placed on Injured Reserve today and updates will be provided when available.

Hughes, the 1st overall pick from the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, has been absolutely electric through the pre-season and the start of the regular season and has all the makings of a player truly ready to break out and join the NHL's elite. He has two goals and three points in just two games this season and his overtime winner in the team's home opener was a thing of absolutely beauty.

What a play! The poise, the patience, the finishing ability!
Does this kid remind anyone else of a young Patrick Kane? Head up all the way, shoulder faking defensemen into oblivion and the silkiest mitts you could ever imagine. Frankly, I wasn't sure if Hughes was ever going to be an impact player at the NHL level after watching him in his rookie campaign, but two years of physical maturity later and it's clear that this kid is the real deal. Hopefully he can get back to full health in short order and get himself back on the highlight reel because he is an absolute treat to watch.
