Dominik Simon rejects offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins!
Dominik Simon says no.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially been rebuffed.
According to news that broke earlier this morning, former Penguins forward Dominik Simon has rejected an offer from the Penguins to attend their upcoming training camp. Simon was likely offered a professional tryout offer, which would have effectively seen him playing for a spot on the roster this season, but has instead chosen to return home.
The news comes to us courtesy of HC Sparta Praha of the Czech Extraliga which announced this morning that they had signed Simon to a new contract and that he would be joining their team for the upcoming season. Simon, who was born in Prague, Czech Republic, began his career as a professional hockey player with HC Sparta Praha prior to coming to the National Hockey League and it would now appear that he is likely to bookend his career with the very same team where it all started.
While it may not be the outcome the Penguins themselves would have hoped for, the fact that they didn't offer the 28 year old centerman an NHL contract after last season, and instead opted to go with a PTO, indicates that they had their reservations.
Simon split last season between the Penguins and the anaheim Ducks, appearing in 55 games for the Penguins where he had 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points and a plus minus rating of 0 and appearing in an additional 17 games for the Ducks in which he had no goals and 4 assists and again finished with a plus minus rating of 0.
