This report is made to make you laugh. Though once the Beaverton posted in online on Tuesday, it got NHL fans going.
The Beaverton, known for mocking daily news and making fake funny reports about hot topics, published a piece on how the only way to settle the Auston Matthews vs. Connor McDavid debate is when they’re both playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The debate has been going since both were drafted first overall in back to back years, though has gotten more intense in the past few seasons, with Matthews stealing some of the spotlight from McDavid. Last week, stats put together a clear graph on how Matthews has moved in the top spot, meaning McDavid drops down from best player in the league.
The Beaverton uses that to joke on how McDavid should join the Maple Leafs once his contract comes to an end in 2026. There were previous rumours that McDavid could want out of Edmonton before then, especially if the Oilers cannot become a strong Stanley Cup contender.
The article however also ends on a joke that this could need to be all forgotten if Matthews signs with the Arizona Coyotes once his contract ends in Toronto in 2024!
While we can all have a good laugh at this: could you imagine Matthews and McDavid in the same uniform?!
The fake news got fans, especially Maple Leafs ones, going on social media. The Canadian dream, right?
