I unfortunately have a heartbreaking update to bring to you today.

On Saturday night, we reported on the fact that an American Hockey League game between the Manitoba Moose and Laval Rocket had come to a premature end due to a medical emergency in the stands.

The game wasn't over with a little over one minute left to go in the third period, but the Rocket made the extremely classy decision of calling it right then and there with their team down 3-0 at the time and the game seemingly out of reach.

On Sunday, we sadly learned that the fan who had suffered the medical emergency that led to the game being called early had tragically lost his life. The news was confirmed by the victim's daughter who published a message on social media platform Facebook confirming that her father had passed during the game.

"My father passed away in peace," said Sophie Pelletier as per La Presse. "He fell asleep during a game from his favorite team."

The victim's brother, Yves Brenda Pelletier, also made a public statement thanking the Laval Rocket for bringing so much joy to his brother during the final years of his life.

"My brother was a huge fan of the Rocket and you brought him a lot of joy over the course of the last few seasons," he said.

The Laval Rocket, who acted with nothing but grace and class throughout this ordeal, also released a statement:

The Laval Rocket wishes to express its support for the individual involved in a medical incident during today's game. Our thoughts are with the individual's family.

My most sincere condolences go out to the Pelletier family, and I hope that they do take solace in the fact that their loved one passed doing what he loved.
