Finally something positive for the Coyotes’ new arena!
It was announced late last night:

Fans have been negative and criticizing the Coyotes’ temporary home at Arizona State’s new 5,000-seat arena, starting next season, and it felt like some almost forgot that the franchise was awaiting the city of Tempe’s deciding on the new arena.
Late on Thursday night, the good news finally came: the Tempe city council has voted to negotiate with the Arizona Coyotes on a proposed development of nearly $2 billion that would include a new arena for the franchise. The council voted 5-2 in favor after a seven-hour meeting that included comments from more than 100 citizens and the reading of more than 220 written statements.
This not guarantee a deal gets done, but opens door for next round of talks.
In the agreement, they get a 30 year “non-relocation” commitment from the NHL, courtesy of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.
This detail is extremely controversial seeing that the market in Arizona remains questionable. Meanwhile, the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL who play out the 18,259 Videotron Centre built in 2015 had nearly 15,000 fans in attendance for a playoff game against the Shawinigan Cataractes.
The Coyotes’ will remain at the 5,000 capacity ASU Multipurpose Arena for at least two seasons, more like three or four seasons, while a new arena in Tempe is being constructed.
This is some good news for the team finally… and the few fans they have in attendance!
