First look at Victor Brattström's new and unique Red Wings mask.
Brattström unveils a new mask.
In the world of hockey a goaltender's mask is more than just some random piece of equipment.
For many goaltenders, especially those at the highest levels of the sport, the mask because a form of personal expression and even in some cases a form of identification for the man behind the protective gear. It would appear as though Red Wings goaltender Victor Brattström feels the same way, something that was made clear over the weekend when he unveiled a brand new mask with a very unique touch to it.
The mask, which was painted by famous mask designer David Gunnarsson, is most definitely a platform for Brattström's personal expression. The 24 year old goaltender, who is currently playing with the Red Wings American Hockey League affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins, asked the children of his neighbors to draw pictures for him so that he could include them on his mask. More specifically it would appear that Brattström asked them to create images that were focused around an anti-bullying message, at least I suspect as much given the overall theme of the images on his new mask.
Thankfully you won't have to wait until Brattström is called up to the National Hockey League before you see his new mask as Gunnarsson has shared his newest creation on his own social media platforms. First Gunnarson published a still image that showed a variety of different angles on the mask, a type of collage that he releases for every one of his new creations.
If you were hoping for an even better look at the new mask than this one though we've already got you covered. Shortly after releasing the still photographs of the new mask, Gunnarsson also published a video of his new art piece. I must say that, although the images looked great, it is the video that really drives home just what a beautiful mask this has turned out to be.
