Hot mess in Calgary!

Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter has been trending on social media on Friday for all of the wrong reasons. It all started last night, following a humiliating 5-2 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings, when Sutter blamed his team’s recent struggles on goaltending and lack of leadership. He was quickly called out by fans and forward Jonathan Huberdeau’s agent Allan Walsh, who took a shot at the bench boss on Twitter.

On Friday morning, the Flames took the ice for practice and it wasn’t long before insiders and reporters noticed goalie Daniel Vladar getting frustrated, breaking his stick on the post and briefly leaving the skate.

“These Flames goalies are leading the league in one stat - broken lumber. Frustration extremely evident in Calgary these days, & last night’s game, followed by Walsh’s tweet, escalated things,” wrote Eric Francis.

The pressure is certainly getting to the Flames, who will face the New York Rangers on Saturday. The last matchup between both teams was a wild one, and it feels like the added frustration in Calgary could push Flames’ players to be aggressive and snappy on the ice.

Ahead of Friday night’s action, Calgary currently sits fifth in the Pacific division, and are just out of the playoff picture behind the Minnesota Wild in the last wild-card spot in the West.
