A shocking move from Rick Tocchet ahead of Game 5.
The Philadelphia Flyers appear on the verge of making a very bold move.
The Flyers have largely dominated their first round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins but after a loss to the Penguins in Game 4 head coach Rick Tocchet had hinted there would be changes, and boy he wasn't kidding.
"We'll look at some video and we'll figure out who we're gonna get in the lineup for the next game," said Tocchet during his post-game comments after a loss in Game 4.
The Flyers now appear poised to make star forward Matvei Michkov a healthy scratch for Game 5 of this series, based on a new look lineup that they showed off for the first time during practice on Sunday. While the Flyers made some changes, the biggest story was of course who wasn't featured in the lineup.
Forwards:
Barkey-Zegras-Tippett
Konecny-Dvorak-Martone
Bump-Cates-Foerster
Glendening-Couturier-Hathaway
Defensemen:
Sanheim-Ristolainen
York-Drysdale
Seeler-Andrae
It looks as though 22 year old forward Alex Bump will draw into the lineup in lieu of Michkov, although neither move has officially been confirmed by the Flyers as of yet. Rick Tocchet was however spotted talking one on one with Bump during yesterday's practice, yet another indication that Bump may be on the verge of getting his first taste of Stanley Cup playoff action.
Michkov is of course one of the Flyers most dynamic offensive weapons and is coming off an 81 game season in which he had 20 goals and 31 assists for 51 points. The young forward has all but vanished in the playoffs however with no goals, no assists and a plus minus rating of -1 through the first four games of this series, the first four playoff games of Michkov's career.
Nonetheless this is a risky move on the part of Tocchet who has seemingly had an adversarial relationship with Michkov since arriving in Philadelphia.
Is Tocchet making the right call? Or should Michkov be in for Game 5? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
