Golden Knights announce their goaltending plan for 2022-23
Well, are they making the right call?
The Vegas Golden Knights will be without the services of starting goaltender Robin Lehner for the entire 2022-23 NHL season, as he's undergoing surgery on not one but both of his hips.
There have been rumors persisting as to whom the Golden Knights could look to potentially acquire to start between the pipes in Lehner's stead, as they would certainly be throwing young Logan Thompson to the wolves if they were to make him their full-time starters despite his flashes late last season of showing he's a capable goaltender.
However, Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon explained today that as of now, his team has no plans to acquire additional goaltending help and will indeed go into the season with the tandem of Thompson and veteran Lourent Brossoit.
ESPN's Greg Wyshynski writes on Twitter:
"Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon said the @GoldenKnights will go into the season with a goalie tandem of Laurent Brossoit and Logan Thompson, with Robin Lehner out for 2022-23."
Well, okay then.
Last season, Thompson went 10-5-3 with a 2.68 goals against average and .914 save percentage, while Brossoit put up a more pedestrian record in his first season in Vegas, going 10-9-3 with a 2.90 goals against average and sub .900 save percentage.
Will Vegas regret not acquiring more established help in the crease? Or could this be Thompson's coming out party?
