On Thursday night, the Carolina Hurricanes absolutely waxed the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 in the teams’ first game since the offseason shenanigans between the two clubs. I’m talking, of course, about the $6.1 million offer sheet (with $20 signing bonus) the Hurricanes used to lure Jesperi Kotkaniemi away from the Habs in retaliation for the failed offer sheet that the Habs tried on Sebastian Aho in 2019.

To make things worse, both players were tremendous on ice, both scoring in front of booing fans who are still waiting for the Habs’ first win of 2021-22.

Later that night, the Canes’social media team took things to a whole new level. They literally created a website called didthehabslose.com… on which you were greeted by a smiling and nodding Aho with links to buy Aho and Kotkaniemi t-shirts with the promo code OUI.

While the site was taken down, the Habs got some revenge thanks to a fan or some fans who bought out the domain and got it to say the ‘Hurricanes suck and that cookout is trash”.

We all know how the social media team in Carolina is often pushing the limits - especially this season when it comes to the Canadiens. When you stick your neck out in such an immature fashion it has a way of coming back to bite you in the ass. In the moment though… it’s pretty damn funny. Whether you like it or not, you have to admit that the ‘Canes’ social media team is awfully creative.

The Canes did respond, and while they accept the insult, they don't have to hear anything bad about the cookout!
