Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin will make his return tonight against the New York Rangers. However, it was revealed earlier on Tuesday that the top forward could have made a return sooner, but chose not to.

Drouin has missed the Canadiens’ last six games after being hit in the face by a shot from teammate Brett Kulak on Nov. 2 in a game against the Red Wings. The Habs kept him out of action as fans feared he had sustained a concussion, however, Drouin explained that while doctors allowed him to return to action, he ignored their verdict and listened to his body to make sure he was really better.

While answering questions in French, he explained that he did not suffer a concussion, but that the swelling on the side of his face was causing him headaches when he put on his helmet. He preferred to wait.

“It’s one thing to get the green light and feel better, but sometimes you have to listen to your body and your head.”

Drouin now feels better and will be on the ice tonight to help the Canadiens get a win over the Rangers in New York.
