The trade deadline is now less than a week away and that means that teams around the National Hockey League are quickly running out of time to put some finishing touches on their rosters ahead of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Activity certainly seems to have picked up on Sunday night with a relatively minor trade between the Minnesota Wild and Philadelphia Flyers and now there are signs that another deal may be coming, this time between the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche.

On Sunday night, Flames insider Eric Francis reported on the fact that the Avalanche had sent a huge contingent from their front office to scout tonight's game between the Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames.

These were not just scouts in attendance either but rather the brain trust of the Avalanche's front office. On hand for the game were Avalanche general manager Chris MacFarland, Avalanche assistant general manager Kevin McDonald and assistant to the general manager Andrew Cogliano. According to Francis, Flames general manager Craig Conroy is also in attendance which makes this that much more interesting.

The Flames of course have had a number of their players linked to trade rumors in recent weeks but the name that will be at the forefront of everyone's mind with these two teams linked together will of course be that of centerman Nazem Kadri.

Kadri of course won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Colorado Avalanche and may also be the Flames most valuable trading chip at this point in time. Although Kadri is now 4 seasons removed from that Stanley Cup win with the Avalanche he remains familiar with their players and their system and that makes him especially valuable to a team like the Avalanche.

In 58 games this season Kadri has 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points.

Only time will tell if these two teams pull the trigger on a deal.
