Things get even uglier in Ottawa.
Cracks may be starting to form in the Ottawa Senators locker room after a season that has been filled with controversy, drama, and a lot more losing than the Senators would have liked.
Following a tough loss at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night we have seen some strong words coming from those within the Senators organization, including Senators head coach Travis Green clearly pointing the finger of blame at one of his players.
Unfortunately for the player in question his coach wasn't the only one throwing him under the bus, with his teammates also sharing some harsh comments of their own with the media. One such teammate was Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson, who not only called out one of his teammates after the game but also appeared to take a shot at his own fans as well.
"Yeah we're used to it," said Sanderson of the hometown crowd being filled with Canadiens fans rather than Senators fans. "Playing an away game at home, it happens quite often. It is what it is."
When it came to the play of Senators goaltender Leevi Merilainen, Sanderson gave an answer that was very much in the same tone as the one offered by Travis Green. Sanderson made it clear that, while he felt Merilainen had made some important saves, it simply was not good enough.
"Yeah I think Leevi made some good saves but I think at the end of the day you've got to make more than 10 saves to win the game," said Sanderson.
Merilainen faced just 19 shots but allowed 6 goals for a .684 save percentage, so it's hard to argue that Green or Sanderson are misplacing the blame.
