Joe Sakic's tenure as general manager comes to an end.
The NHL legend is moving on.
It is the end of an era in Colorado, but what a way to cap it off.
According to a breaking news report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, Joe Sakic's run as general manager of the Colorado Avalanche has come to an end. The Avalanche will be promoting Chris MacFarland to the role of general manager and Sakic himself will be promoted to president of hockey operations for the Colorado Avalanche.
Sakic has been a winner at every level of his hockey career and I can't think of any way a general manager could cap off their tenure in a better way. Not only did Sakic and the Colorado Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in 2022, every general manager's goal, but he was also named the general manager of the year at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
I suspect that his run of success will continue as the Avalanche's president of hockey operations, and with Chris MacFarland at the helm, a candidate that was highly sought after by other NHL teams during the last offseason, he's already off to a great start.
