The 2021-22 season hasn't gone the way that Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews would have hoped. Toews, always a fierce competitor, is clearly frustrated with his team's performance this season and hasn't been afraid to voice his frustration to fans and media at various points during the campaign.
Today, when asked about his leadership Toews deflected a bit and said essentially that he'd like to hear from his bosses what they expect from him as a captain.
“I’d like to sit down more often with Kyle (Davidson) and our coaching staff. Sometimes it helps me to hear their honesty.... it would be good to know exactly what's going on...”
- Jonathan Toews

Now, if these words sound surprising to you, you haven't been paying close enough attention to Toews this season. The longtime Blackhawks captain has clearly been frustrated with his team and their trajectory the past few years and that frustration is boiling over. With next season being the final year of Toews' monster $10.5 million annual salary contract it'll be interesting to see what happens between him and the team in the future.
