Juraj Slafkovsky overjoyed with another Canadiens pick at the draft.
His reaction is priceless.
It probably won't come as a surprise when I say this considering he went first overall at the draft, but there may truly have been no man, woman or child that had a better time at the 2022 National Hockey League Entry Draft than Slovakian forward Juraj Slafkovsky.
Slafkovsky was overjoyed when he was selected 1st overall in this this year's draft and quite frankly he looked more than a little surprised by the pick. That shouldn't be a shock considering all the hype that there was surrounding Seattle Kraken forward Shane Wright coming into the draft, and Slafkovsky wasn't the only face in the building that showed a look of surprise. It was the reaction from his family however that truly highlighted what a monumental moment this was for the youngster and his family.
Somehow though the night would manage to get even better for the young forward thanks entirely to his new team, the Montreal Canadiens. After selecting Slafkovsky 1st overall in the draft the Canadiens would continue to make moves on the draft floor, including utilizing another first round draft selection with the 26th overall pick in the draft. That pick would become 18 year old Slovakian forward Filip Mesar, who as it turns out appears to be a friend of Slafkovsky's.
Thankfully someone from the Canadiens was with Slafkovsky at the time that the pick was announced, and he can be seen reacting to the news that his friend has just been drafted to the same team on video. The reaction is so genuine and so full of joy that you won't be able to help but smile along with Slafkovsky, who to his credit appeared to be even happier for his friend than he was for himself after being picked at #1 by the Canadiens.
Here is the video courtesy of the Canadiens:
While there's no question in my mind that the Canadiens wouldn't have used the 26th pick in the draft on Mesar if he did not warrant it, I suspect that they knew full well what they were doing when they made the decision to select both of these young men in the first round.
