JUST IN: Vegas Golden Knights G Robin Lehner's season is over!

Well, how the turntables.....

Michael W.

It's official.

The Vegas Golden Knights will now be without the services of goaltender Robin Lehner for the rest of their season, which may be only two more games in regular season play. The 30 year old Swede is set to undergo season-ending surgery:

The knee injury was suffered during a March 8 game against the Philadelphia Flyers, and though Lehner tried to battle through it, it proved to be too much to overcome. And with goaltender Laurent Brossoit already on the shelf with an injury, the Golden Knights' faint playoff hopes now rest with young Logan Thompson in the crease.

Lehner had been rumored to be undergoing the procedure late last week, though that report was denied by head coach Pete DeBoer.

Of course, maybe none of this would have happened had the Golden Knights not decided to toss aside the most important player in their young franchise's history aside like a dirty sock last offseason when they made the inexplicable call to trade Marc-Andre Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks without so much as a heads up.

Right now, Fleury is thriving with the Minnesota Wild after having been acquired from Chicago as expected at the NHL Trade Deadline. Meanwhile, Vegas is on the verge of officially being eliminated from playoff contention for the first time ever.

Lehner finishes the season with a 23-17-2 record along with a 2.83 goals against average and save percentage of .907.
