Kris Knoblauch addresses the biggest question heading into Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.
All eyes in the hockey world are currently locked in on Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final with the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers traveling to Edmonton to take on the Edmonton Oilers.
We have been treated to an incredible back and forth series thus far that has seen 3 of 4 games go to overtime, and the drama continued ahead of Game 5 with a huge goaltending decision looming for Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch.
I reported earlier today that the Oilers had revealed their choice ahead of Game 5 but following the team's morning skate, Knoblauch would face questions about his decision to go back to Calvin Pickard.
"It wasn't an easy call because we've got two good goaltenders," admitted Knoblauch ahead of Game 5 on Saturday.
That being said it seems that both the Oilers as a whole as well as Pickard himself played his way into this spot with their incredible comeback win in Game 4.
"The deciding factor for us was we won the previous game," said Knoblauch. "Picks made a lot of big saves. So that was probably the deciding factor, one we did win and how well he played for him to get the net again."
Funnily enough both men have played to a similar level in these Stanley Cup playoffs, with Stuart Skinner boasting a 2.99 goals against average and a .891 save percentage over 14 games compared to Pickard's 2.69 goals against average and .896 save percentage over 9 games.
That being said, given that Pickard boasts a record of 7-0 in the playoffs and helped his team rally back from a 0-3 deficit in Game 4, I simply don't see how Knoblauch had any other choice in this scenario.
