Oilers make a desperation move ahead of Game 4 on Sunday.
Desperation may have set in for the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers have been shocked by the Anaheim Ducks through the first 3 games of their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series, with the Ducks picking up back to back wins in which they scored a combined 13 goals.
While it would be easy to blame goaltending for 13 goals over a 2 game span, the reality of the situation is that the Oilers have played very poorly in front of their goaltender. Connor Ingram has recorded an abysmal 4.70 goals against average and an ugly .849 save percentage as a result through these first 3 games of the playoffs, and now the Oilers are doing what would have once been considered unthinkable.
On Sunday, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that the team would be turning back to goaltender Tristan Jarry for Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It is a shocking move given what an unmitigated disaster the acquition of Jarry has proven to be for the Oilers this season, with Jarry not only playing poorly but reportedly causing issues on the team as well.
Over 19 games in the regular season as a member of the Edmonton Oilers, Jarry was quite frankly awful. The veteran netminder would record a 3.86 goals against average and a horrible .858 save percentage over that stretch and I genuinely don't know what the Oilers are expecting out of Jarry tonight in Game 4.
Is this the right call or a panic move on the part of Knoblauch? Let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments.
