Kris Knoblauch officially names a new starter on Sunday.
The Edmonton Oilers goaltending situation coming into the regular season was a dire one with confidence in both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard as a tandem at an all time low, but somehow tinkering from Oilers general manager Stan Bowman has managed to make things even worse.
Since being acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry has been nothing short of abysmal with a 4.17 goals against average and a .855 save percentage over 15 games, and that's before we get into the altercations with teammates during practice.
On Sunday, with the goaltending situation in complete disarray, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed to members of the media that veteran goaltender Connor Ingram would be assuming the role of the Oilers starting netminder moving forward. Knoblauch didn't throw Jarry under the bus however, stressing that he would be important down the stretch for the Oilers.
He did also however suggest that Jarry will need to regain his confidence by performing better in practice, something that we know has already been an issue for Jarry since joining the team.
Ingram has been much better for the Oilers than Jarry this season with a 2.79 goals against average and a .891 save percentage over a relevant sample size of 20 games. It's hard to argue with Knoblauch's decision to hand the reins of the Oilers net to Ingram given just how abysmal Jarry has been in goal for them this season.
