Kris Knoblauch shares first details of Leon Draisaitl's injury.
The Edmonton Oilers picked up a very important two points on Sunday night when they defeated the Nashville Predators, but it was a victory that would come at a significant cost.
The Oilers would lose star forward Leon Draisaitl when he was on the receiving end of a body check courtesy of Predators forward Ozzy Wiesblatt, but it seemed as though the boards may have done more damage than Wiesblatt. Draisaitl absorbed the hit but went awkwardly into the boards in front of the Predators bench, where there is no protective glass to bounce off of. Draisaitl's body would slam into the boards at an awkward angle forcing him to leave the game after just a few short minutes of ice time.
On Monday, Kris Knoblauch shared the first official update on Draisaitl when he confirmed that Draisaitl is currently out with a lower body injury as a result of the hit on Sunday. Knoblauch informed reporters that Draisaitl was still meeting with medical professionals and as a result had no clear timeline for his return just yet.
Draisaitl is of course one of the Oilers most important players and is having one of his most dominant seasons ever with a staggering 35 goals and 62 assists for 97 points in just 65 games played this season. Losing him for any length of time would be a devastating blow to the Oilers offense and would leave a hole in the Oilers lineup that the Oilers have no hope of filling.
