Concern around McDavid after an early exit from practice on Monday.
The Edmonton Oilers got a bit of a scare on Monday morning when Oilers captain Connor McDavid made an early exit from practice. Although McDavid didn't appear to have suffered any kind of injury, he immediately moved to speak to the team's training staff after leaving the ice leading to concerns something may have gone unnoticed.
Following the team's morning skate, head coach Kris Knoblauch spoke to the media and was able to share an update on McDavid's status. Knoblauch suggested that McDavid was merely taking something of a maintenance day, a bit odd considering he hit the ice.
"He was on the line of taking a maintenance day," said Knoblauch. "Just wanted to touch the ice (today)."
Although the Oilers bench boss downplayed the situation McDavid's comments did seem to suggest that he is dealing with some issues, even if they are relatively minor.
"Just hips and groin stuff," said McDavid. "Yup, all good."
The Oilers are currently in a desperate battle to make the Stanley Cup playoffs and, with star forward Leon Draisaitl already out of the lineup due to injury, the last thing they can afford is to lose McDavid for any length of time.
The good news here is that McDavid and the Oilers will get another day off to rest and recover before two more games on the road this week which kicks off Tuesday against the Utah Mammoth.
