He was going under the knife earlier today.

Jack Eichel’s artificial disc replacement surgery took place earlier today at Rocky Mountain Spine Clinic in Denver.

And it did not take long to get the latest update on his condition as the Vegas Golden Knight described Eichel’s surgery as “successful and without complications”.

John Shannon added: “Once allowed to begin rehab he will go under the supervision of Mark Lindsay from Ottawa, who was involved in Connor McDavid’s knee rehab.”

This is the first important stop in Eichel’s new journey with the Vegas Golden Knights, he who was acquired along with a third-round pick in return for forward Alex Tuch, rookie center Peyton Krebs and two draft picks that were sent back to the Buffalo Sabres.

Eichel is expected to spend three weeks in Denver recovering, then move to Las Vegas where will spend the remainder of the expected three months of his rehab.

The forward probably can’t believe this is finally behind him, he who wanted to get artificial disc replacement surgery from the start but was denied that desire by the Sabres, seeing that the procedure had never been performed on an NHL player. He lost nearly an entire season due to the stalemate over the treatment.

The talented forward, who will no doubt be a great addition to Vegas, is currently in the fourth season of an eight-year, $80 million contract. He topped 20 goals in each of his first five seasons but had a career-best 36 goals in 68 games in 2019-20 before the season was abruptly halted because of the COVID pandemic.

Overall, he had 139 goals and 216 assists in 375 career games, all with Buffalo. He is looking for a new start in Vegas and it started today with this successful surgery.
