Fans almost began to believe it would never happen, but the Montreal Canadiens and head coach Martin St. Louis announced on Wednesday that star goalie Carey Price will travel with the team to New Jersey and Toronto.
However, TSN’s John Lu quickly reminded fans that a team official revealed earlier today that Price will not play in either game.
We can understand how the latest update from the Habs bring mixed feelings to the fanbase.
Price continues to work his way back from off-season knee injury and has yet to play this season following a stint in the players’ assistance program due to substance abuse and then the recovery process of his knee injury.
It’s been said that Price is likely to play before the end of the regular season calendar, but he is not in net on Thursday or this weekend, that means that there are only 10 contests left for him to return.
During the 2021-22 season, Price posted a 12-7-5 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and .901 save percentage in the regular season, In the playoffs, he played 22 games, going 13-9-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .924 save percentage, leading Montreal to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 1993.
St. Louis also offered other roster news ahead of the game against the Devils on Thursday, stating that Nick Suzuki, Paul Byron and Justin Barron are all taking therapy days. Suzuki will travel with the team to New Jersey but the status of Byron and Barron is to be determined.
