Logan Couture praises the Sharks' locker room as Evander Kane remains suspended.
Just a coincidence?
After an abysmal campaign that saw them miss out on the playoffs entirely the San Jose Sharks look about as good as you could have hoped on the ice. Of course off the ice has been a very different story with star forward Evander Kane embarrassing the organization at every turn, but much of that has largely been out of the team's control.
It feels like a very different Sharks team than the one we saw on the ice last season and this week veteran forward Logan Couture, the team's captain, appeared to confirm as much when speaking during a post game interview following the Sharks' fourth win of the season. Couture was practically beaming about his fellow teammates when speaking after the win, but I couldn't help but notice that these comments were being made while Kane wasn't playing with the team.
"Yeah I haven't had fun like this in a long time," said Couture with a huge grin on his face. "It's a lot of fun with this group and we have a lot of guys that are trying to earn the opportunity to play in the NHL and they are great people first and foremost. The new guys we brought in are also great people and I think that dressing room is as good as its been in a long time. So we wanna play for each other and we wanna win for each other and it shows on the ice."
To be clear Couture himself never once mentioned Evander Kane during his post game comments and for all I know they were entirely unrelated to the controversial Sharks superstar. That being said it's hard not to draw a parallel between the comments that were made by Couture this week and some of the reports that have come out regarding how some members of the Sharks locker room feel about Kane.
Just a few short months ago Matt Porter reported damning comments from an agent with players on the Sharks roster.
"That guy walks into a room and the flowers wilt," said the agent as per the Boston Globe.
Perhaps it is just a coincidence.
