Longtime NHL defenseman Andrej Sekera officially retires
Just shy of 850 games. A very respectable career for a stellar blueliner.

Longtime NHL defenseman Andrej Sekera has officially announced his retirement at age 36.
Sekera played the last three seasons with the Dallas Stars, putting up just one goal and four points in 32 games last season. In total, he put up 51 goals and 253 points in 842 career games split between the Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres. The Slovakian blueliner put together his best NHL season with the Hurricanes in 2013-14 when he put up 11 goals and 44 points in 74 games.
While he was never a flashy defender, Sekera was a reliable top four guy who could move the puck, contribute on the powerplay and play a shut down role with the right partner. In short, he was a solid defenseman.
Congrats to him on a stellar career and all the best in retirement.
