Lucas Raymond powers his way into the Red Wings record books!

They say Everybody Loves Raymond, and we sure do!

Michael W.

The Detroit Red Wings have truly found themselves a gem with forward Lucas Raymond

The rookie forward tallied his first career hat trick tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks, increasing the number of times he's turned on the red light so far this season to four. Oh, and he also registered an assist tonight for a total of four points.

And in doing so, he's made team history.

He's become the first Red Wings teenager to record a four-point night since none other than the man who drafted him, Steve Yzerman. The only player to previously accomplish the feat before Yzerman? Gordie Howe.

As a matter of fact, Raymond achieved several statistical accolades tonight. Take a look at the compilation courtesy of NHL.com:

* Lucas Raymond became just the second teenager in Red Wings history to score a hat trick, joining franchise icon, and current general manager, Steve Yzerman who did so twice (Dec. 23, 1983 & March 30, 1985).

* Lucas Raymond scored his first career hat trick and became the first Red Wings rookie to tally three or more goals in a game since Johan Garpenlov (4-0—4) accomplished the feat on  Nov. 23, 1990.

Lucas Raymond (19 years, 210 days), who scored the NHL’s fourth hat trick in two days, became the League’s second teenager in as many seasons to score a hat trick, joining Senators forward Tim Stützle (3-0—3 on May 8; 19 years, 113 days).

* Detroit has had two hat tricks this season (also Tyler Bertuzzi: Oct. 14), the most through the club’s first six games of any campaign in franchise history. They became the fifth team in 20 years to have multiple players score a hat trick through the team’s first six games of the season, joining Boston (2 in 2018-19), Pittsburgh (2 in 2013-14), Colorado (2 in 2007-08) and Philadelphia (2 in 2002-03).

Lucas Raymond collected 3-1—4 and became the third teenager in Red Wings history to record at least four points in a game, joining Steve Yzerman (3-1—4 on Dec. 23, 1983) and Gordie Howe (0-4—4 on Dec. 17, 1947).

Red Wings fans may not have been very happy (and understandably so) when they didn't receive the top overall draft selection in the 2020 Draft, but things sure appear to have worked out for the best.
