Maple Leafs hint at change in net before facing the Bruins.
Leafs may still be dealing with injuries between the pipes.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are likely still dealing with some injuries between the pipes.
On Saturday morning the Leafs announced that they would be calling up goaltender Joseph Woll, and there is good reason to believe that Woll could be serving in a backup role this evening when the Leafs face off against the Boston Bruins.
Woll has previously spent the entire season playing in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies. Over 3 appearances for the Marlies this season the 23 year old netminder has a 3.38 goals against average and an .895 save percentage.
It looks like goaltender Petr Mrazek will once again be unavailable for the Maple Leafs this evening. Leafs beat reporter Lance Hornby reported on Saturday morning that Mrazek missed the team's morning skate ahead of the Bruins game, likely as a result of his nagging groin injury.
Woll got a bit of a rough start to the day thanks in large part to Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren who welcomed him to practice with a shot off the mask. Not exactly how you want to welcome the guy stepping in to replace your injured goaltender, but Liljegren would apologize to Woll for the relatively careless play and thankfully it appears as though Woll is just fine.
An update from Luke Fox confirms that Mrazek's groin injury is the source of his absence.
For those of you paying close attention to the Maple Leafs' rotation on the blue line, something that has become very interesting given the recent trade rumors surrounding the Leafs defenseman, it looks like more of the same this evening. According to Hornby it will be veteran defenseman Justin Holl who will sit in the press box once again this evening, an interesting move given that he is one of the players that has been mentioned in those recent rumors.
There is a belief that the Leafs are looking to move either Dermott or Holl, but you can't showcase a player for a trade if he isn't playing. Purely speculation, but process of elimination appears to make Dermott the more likely candidate to be dealt.
