Former Habs GM finds a new gig.

Former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin did not have to wait long to find himself a new job.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that Bergevin would be joining their font office in a short press release made via their social media. According to the official announcement Bergevin will now serve as a senior advisor to the general manager, a position that is currently occupied by former National Hockey League player Rob Blake.

It is an interesting move on the part of the Kings for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that this will be perceived by many as a potential replacement for Blake down the road if things don't go in a direction that the Kings organization are happy with. It's also interesting due to the fact that both general managers have very different styles, with Bergevin not being afraid of making big trades while Blake's tenure as general manager of the Kings has been characterized as far more conservative in nature.

It's also worth noting that Blake is a first time NHL GM and bringing in an executive like Bergevin, one who brings a wealth of experience to the table, who has just got done working in one of the toughest markets in the league can only prove to be an asset.

The timing of this move is also very interesting given that it comes at a time when the Kings are being linked to one of the biggest trade rumors of the season. It was reported over the weekend that the Kings are among the frontrunners to acquire Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, although according to some reports there are no fewer than 10 teams currently in the mix for that potential blockbuster deal.

In Los Angeles Bergevin will also be reunited with former Montreal Canadiens centerman Phillip Danault, an interesting twist of fate considering the fact that Bergevin reportedly tried and failed to sign Danault to a new long term deal before he joined the Kings as an unrestricted free agent.
