You know what happened and who is to blame for Game 1 between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings. The Kings won 4-3 in the first contest of the best-of-7 series on Monday after a Mike Smith turnover led to Phillip Danault ’s game-winning goal on a deflection at 14:46 of the third period.

But the Oilers stand behind their starter and that’s why Smith will be in net tonight for Game 2 of the series.

While his teammates believe Smith will bounce back from the Game 1 blunder, fans aren’t as optimistic.

After all, Smith is now 0-6 with a 3.27 GAA and .892 saves percentage in playoffs with the Oilers… But should fans see the play for what Smith and the Oilers say it is? A bad start. A bad play by Smith? The fanbase is more focused on the fact that the Oilers have lost seven straight postseason games dating back to 2020.

And they love to blame Smith. But this is Game 2. Give Smith the net and get after it. Let’s see what happens then before pulling him out for Game 3, no?
