Fans knew it was coming. On Wednesday morning, the Calgary Flames added seven players, seven support staff and three coaches to the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol. The seven additional players are: Rasmus Andersson, Byron Froese, Johnny Gaudreau, Erik Gudbranson, Trevor Lewis, Jacob Markstrom and Tyler Pitlick. The coaches include head coach Darryl Sutter, associate coach Kirk Muller and assistant Ryan Huska.
The Flames outbreak has now reached a total of 27 cases, including 16 players. TSN’s Salim Valji reports the Calgary Flames will have at least one more game postponed, and even mentions the possibility that the team’s Dec. 23 game at home to the Seattle Kraken is also in jeopardy.
Three Flames games have already been postponed through Thursday, and more are surely in order. The Flames were scheduled to face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night in Calgary.
The team’s facilities have been closed and the players have been told to stay away other than to get the daily test.
Calgary is on four-game losing streak and is coming off a 4-2 defeat to the Boston Bruins on Saturday. But before getting over the slump, they need to get over this outbreak…
In other good news across the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes, whose game against the Minnesota Wild was postponed on Tuesday night are set to face the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
