P.K. Subban became an unrestricted free agent last Wednesday and has yet to sign a contract. While he remains unsigned, his agent is adamant that the defenseman is looking to play in the NHL in 2022-23 and that he will make a decision on where that will be soon.

In an interview with TVA Sports, Don Meehan revealed that Subban was exploring all of the options that we presented to him.

“We are still considering several possibilities,” he stated to the network.

It was reported earlier this month that New Jersey Devils might still be considering taking him back and there are rumours that the Montreal Canadiens could consider taking him back. The Habs did trade Jeff Petry to the Pittsburgh Penguins over the weekend, finding themselves short on the right side of their defence. Montreal desperately needs help on the power-play and Subban could bolster the power-play unit in no time.

However, we cannot say if the Habs are one of the options that Meehan and his client are considering at the moment.
There was a sense that there could be some interested from the Toronto Maple Leafs, which got fans and maybe even Subban himself dreaming of playing for his hometown team with his buddy John Tavares. However Toronto recently signed two free agent blue liners in Victor Mete and Jordie Benn, making the move almost impossible at this point.

So what are these several possibilities? Is the NHL still realistic for Subban after a couple of terrible seasons?

With the Devils in 2019-20, he wasn’t the offensive blue liner fans knew him to be, putting up 18 points in 68 games of the COVID-shortened season. He sort of bounced back the following season, putting up 19 points in 44 games, and last year, he had 22 points in 77 games.
