Multiple Leafs jerseys thrown on the ice in Toronto in humiliating Game 5 loss
Many players deserve to see their jersey land on the ice, but find out below whose number was dumped on the ice:
In the third period of an already awful game for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Florida Panthers, things got worse for the local team.
Entering the frame trailing behind 4-0, the Leafs didn’t come out with desperation and it soon became 5-0 with A.J. Greer joining in the fun. With the fifth tally, Toronto goalie Joseph Woll was chased out of the net and replaced by veteran Matt Murray.
At the same time, Chris Johnston reported that “an Auston Matthews jersey was just thrown on the ice at Scotiabank Arena.”
You just felt like it was coming. Fans first got quiet, but then booed the team at the end of the second period as the Leafs’ players headed out to the dressing room.
However, many pundits believed it would be Mitch Marner’s jersey that would end up on the ice. He gave a terrible turnover on the Panthers’ turn goal and you can tell, as he risks to enter free agency this summer, this is an unfortunate replay that will be seen again and again.
Moments later when Florida took a 6-0 with less than 12 minutes to go, another fan threw his jersey onto the ice. And it sounds like more went on there as well...
Johnston noted that “fans are pouring out of Scotiabank Arena as Florida makes it 6-0. Those remaining are trying to boo.”
People actually paid thousands of dollars to watch this game… cannot blame them.
Brutal night in Toronto.
In front of several empty seats, the game ended with a blowout 6-1 win for the Cats as they head back home with a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 takes place Friday night.
