New player emerges in Ottawa Senators sale.

An Ottawa CEO is stepping up to the plate.

Earlier this week the Ottawa Senators announced that the team was officially up for sale, an announcement that has resulted in a huge number of rumors regarding what might come next for the team, specifically as far as ownership is concerned.

Perhaps the most popular rumor since the announcement was made official has been the link between Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and purchase of the team, although that remains just a rumor at this time. There are of course some names that have been credibly linked to the sale of the team so far, and on Saturday we added another one to the list courtesy of Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch.

According to Garrioch, the latest to throw their name in the hat is Ottawa based CEO Jeff York. York, who was born and raised in Ottawa, currently works as the CEO of Farm Boy and has done so since taking over the role in 2009.

Garrioch reports that the CEO is "trying to put together a group of investors" to make a purchase of the Senators possible, although it is unclear if that lines up with the National Hockey League's vision for a potential future owner of the Senators. According to the Senators insider "the NHL would prefer one owner with a large majority," which might make York and his potential group of investors a long shot.
