The NHL has fined Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo $2,000 for diving.
This is the second time that DeAngelo has been punished by the league for diving, but the first time he's been fined as his first infraction earned him just a warning.
The 26 year old defenseman is off to a red hot start with the red hot Hurricanes this season, putting up two goals and 11 points in his team's first 11 games of the season. He's no stranger to controversy of course, as anyone who follows his Twitter feed will let you know. The former 1st round pick has gone on lengthy diatribes before mostly in support of right-wing American politics. He's probably most known though for getting into a physical altercation with former New York Rangers teammate Alexandar Georgiev last season, earning him a contract buyout and a one way ticket to free agency.
The Hurricanes took a calculated gamble on him in free agency and it appears to be paying off in the early goings of the season, despite today's fine.
