As of 5 pm ET today, the NHL is under a roster freeze. That means no more moving players from the NHL to the AHL and vice versa while the suspension of play is in place.
While the NHL didn't say one way or the other, one has to wonder if the move was prompted after the Anaheim Ducks decided yesterday to put Kiefer Sherwood on waivers in order to send him to the AHL. Doing so saved the team about $100,000. Anaheim took a lot of flak from fans for the move, with many calling it greedy and a sign of disrespect.
According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, "NHL teams have been told that the four-recall rule post-trade deadline will continue to apply if the seasons resumes." This means emergency call-ups can resume if the season gets back underway. Right now, that seems like a big if.
