The Ottawa Senators were eliminated from Stanley Cup playoff contention on Saturday, but that won't spare Senators forward Ridly Greig from the wrath of the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety.

On Sunday, the disciplinary arm of the NHL announced that Greig would have a hearing for his actions in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. While the league itself described it as a hearing for "roughing" against Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker, in reality it was a sucker punch on the part of Greig that sparked widespread outrage including from two former NHL players.

It seems like there is no doubt that Greig will face a suspension for his actions, although it may be some time before Hurricanes fans get a true resolution with Player Safety announcing that the time and date of Greig's hearing will be determined at a later time.

Either way Greig, who is only in year 1 of a 4 year deal, will likely miss games to start next season for the Senators.

Given the level of attention Greig's sucker punch received on multiple nationally televised broadcasts the league's decision to move towards a suspension comes as no surprise. Greig could very well be looking at multiple games here given that Walker was completely defenseless at the time Greig punched him, with Walker being held by Ottawa Senators forward Warren Foegele. That was a big part of the reason the incident caused such a huge backlash and could be an aggravating factor against Greig in his upcoming hearing.
