The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has finally responded to a highly controversial hit from Friday night's slate of NHL games, but unfortunately that response seems to have only fueled even more outrage.

On Friday night, Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary was on the receiving end of one of the ugliest hits of the season when he was driven head first into the boards by a nasty hit from behind courtesy of Florida Panthers forward AJ Greer.

Greer appeared frustrated during the incident and his actions reeked of a player engaged in a deliberate attempt to injure an opposing player, leading many to call for Greer to face a lengthy suspension as a result of his actions. Greer was quickly ejected from the game immediately following the hit and on Saturday we received an announcement from the disciplinary arm of the league.

In an official announcement, Player Safety announced that Greer would have a hearing on Sunday for "boarding" Zary, sparking even more outrage from fans. That outrage stems from the fact that Greer's hearing was not announced as an in-person hearing, meaning he is facing a maximum potential suspension of 5 games.

NHL analyst Jeff Marek has confirmed that this will not be an in-person hearing.

The response to that news has not been positive.

Did the NHL make the right decision? Or does Greer deserve more than a potential maximum of 5 games? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
