NHL Player Safety has handed down a $5,000 fine to Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander for making an "inappropriate gesture" to camera's during Sunday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche.
In case you missed it, Nylander was captured flipping the middle finger to cameras and smiling ear to ear in the Leafs' press box high above the rink.
Check it out:
Was it a dumb, childish move? Yes.
Was it also hilarious? Also, yes.
Nylander, of course, apologized for the gesture saying that he acted out of frustration.
“First off, I just want to apologize for my actions yesterday, it was out of frustration, so I’m sorry about that,” he told reporters earlier today.
What was Nylander frustrated about?
“Just not playing and want to be out there with the guys. Yeah, just frustrated,” he said.
When asked if he regretted what he did, Nylander said he clued in pretty quickly.
“Yeah. Sitting there I got a text message. I was like oh, not a good idea. Not a good thing to do.”
Lesson learned... all it took was a $5,000 hit to the wallet. Hope it was worth it, Willy...
